ZC's ROBOTICS Projects

Hi all, I am Gong Zicheng. Welcome to my website where I showcase my Arduino and Lego Projects. I am a Y1 student at ST. Joseph’s Institution. I learned Arduino and Lego Robotics during my spare time. I like to create and build things to change the world into a better place. Here are some projects I have done in the past.

First Lego League 2022/2023 SocketSavers Team

During 2022-2023 robotics season, FIRST teams reimagined the future of sustainable energy and power their ideas forward. Our team SocketSavers from Nullspace has tried our best and scored 305 out of 400 in the actual competition day (1st April 2023). I am sharing here what our team has done:

  1. Innovation Project
  2. Robot Programming
  3. Robot Design
  4. Gracious Professionalism

Innovation Project

Project Challenge:

People tend to forget to turn off the socket after use which wastes electricity and not safe.

  • Any switched-on charger/appliance that is plugged in will still use electricity.
  • If left on for a long time, this amount is non-negligible.
  • Electricity is wasted, and as a result, both resources and money are wasted.

Our Solution is a smart socket that detects if there is no one nearby and automatically switch off to save the energy.

Robot Run

For the first run of our robot, we will start at the right base. First, we would move forward and push the television. After that, we would reverse and collect the rechargeable battery. Next, we would move forward and push the windmill to collect all three energy units. After that, we would lift up the arm of the hybrid car and return back to the right base.

For the second run of our robot, we will start again at the right base. First, we would move forward towards the centre of the playfield and drop 3 energy units into the toy factory while passing it. After that, we would pull the level forward and activate the hand. We would then reverse and collect the water units. Before returning to the left base, we will collect all three energy units at the solar farm. During this run, we would also bring the dinosaur across the field.

Runs 3, 4, & 5 are all microruns. These runs are to collect and deposit items on the playfield in close proximity. These runs are short to increase Gyro accuracy. We can only complete runs 3 & 5 if time permits.

In run 6, we are trying to complete missions that we have not completed yet. We decided to skip the power plant mission because our attachments would not be able to complete it and we did not have the sufficient time  to do so.

Robot Design

Gracious Professionalism

FLL Core Values are discovery, innovation and impact.

  • Discovery is all about learning new things
  • Innovation is to think about new ways to do the same things, but better.
  • Innovative solutions mean nothing if they do not have impact. Our solutions need to be able to change things for the better.

We embrace gracious professionalism during our project and FLL competition.

Graciousness

  • Speaking kindly to teammates
  • Being encouraging
  • Being respectful
  • Not being rude

Professionalism

  • Being on time
  • Being attentive
  • Not arguing with team members
